Sealants / Flourides

Sealants diagramDental sealants are a coating of a plastic composite that is applied to the occlusal surface of the back teeth, generally molars and pre-molars.

They seal the grooves of the tooth where bacteria can harbor and cause decay.  They are generally applied between age 6 and 12, when the permanent molars and pre-molars are erupting.

Sealants are a safe and good protection to prevent cavities.

Although city drinking water has flouride mixed in it, it is recommended by the American that extra flouride treatment can prevent cavities from occurring.
